Seven Tips for successful Weight Loss

Weight loss is a common target for many people. While some people want to lose weight to look better and fitter, there are others who need to lose weight in order to maintain good health and reduce the chances of medical ailments.

Irrespective of the reasons for losing weight, the basic principles of weight loss remain the same. Here are some tips that can help you lose weight in a healthy manner without compromising on your nutritional needs for the body.

  • Physical activity – There is no substitute to hard work, and this maxim applies to weight loss as well. If you want to lose weight, you will need to work hard for it and start ensuring that you include some physical activity in your life. The basic minimum level of physical activity that you need to do is 30 minutes of workout for at least 6 days a week. This could be a sport that you enjoy or a workout in a gym. At the same time, make modifications in your lifestyle to add to this physical activity by choosing to climb stairs instead of using the elevator, gardening, walking to the mall, and choosing to do house chores regularly.
  • Use SMART objectives – Use the corporate fundamentals of SMART objectives to detail the result areas that you want to monitor. Ensure that the goal that you set for yourself is Specific, Measurable, Appropriate, Realistic, and Time Bound. Decide on the amount of weight that you want to lose in a specific time period. Make sure that the goal is achievable so as not to get frustrated after a month. Do not try and weigh yourself every week, but wait for a month to do so. A short term weight loss target of 2 to 4 pounds in a month and 10 pounds in 4 to 5 months is realistic and healthy.
  • Eat right – The idea of healthy weight loss is not to starve, but to eat right. In fact, all nutritionists and fitness experts will tell you that you need to eat well in order to be able to have the energy to burn the calories too. Eating nutritious and high fiber food in larger quantities and working out can help increase your metabolism as well.
  • Reward yourself – Make sure that you give yourself a well-deserved treat when you achieve your target. This reward does not have to be a food treat and can be something that you have wanted to buy, but feel it is not justified. It could be a massage or a short vacation to a place you’ve always wanted to visit.
  • Stay satiated – Remember that it takes the brain about 20 minutes to get the signal that the stomach is full, so make sure that you eat your meals slowly and wait a while before taking that second helping. Use smaller plates so that you are forced to take smaller helpings. If you have issues with staying full, ensure that you drink at least 8 glasses of water every day. This is something that will keep you healthy too.
  • Keep a diary – This is a method in which you can check the amount of food that you are eating and the quality of nutrition that you are taking in. Such a habit will help you keep your health in check as you lose weight.
  • Safe and natural weight loss supplements – If you are using weight loss supplements, make sure that you choose one that is natural and completely safe. An appetite suppressant can help you control the natural urge to grab something unhealthy when you are hungry. It helps you feel satiated for longer, thereby cutting out the unnecessary calories that you take in otherwise.
